Oldest Champagne in the World is Finally Uncorked

This past weekend, 12 of the world’s most prominent wine experts made their way to France’s Perrier-Jouet Champagne House for a tasting of 20 historic vintages from the house’s private cellars. Some of the most noteworthy tastings included the famous “PJ 1874” which was sold at auction in 1885 and dubbed the world’s most expensive champagne and Perrier-Jouet Vintage 1825, the oldest champagne in the world.

Serena Sutcliffe, head of the international wine division at Sotheby’s said:

“It is virtually impossible to assign a value to the 1825 vintage — we’ve never seen anything like it on the market! This was, quite simply, the opportunity of a lifetime tasting such exceptional, historic vintages.”

The quote was given while Sutcliffe continued to sip a mimosa made from the historic 1825 champagne.
