Food Roundup for Feb 6

Today in food and dining news:

So apparently it’s not just us that’s having a hard time coping with the nutrition information now being posted on the menus at major chain restaurants. It turns out calorie information does affect people’s habits. This comes as a major revelation since we’d always assumed we must just be special.

Whatever. I’m still ordering a meatball sub.

Speaking of healthy, former Mystery Science Theater 3000 writer Michael J. Nelson has pledged to eat an all-bacon diet this month. He is making exceptions for beverages, but everything else is going to be nothing but conventional bacon. We’d call this a gimmick if we weren’t so busy thinking about nice crisp bacon…

In restaurant news, The Old Spaghetti Factory is one of those places that seems to enjoy continued success despite keeping a relatively low profile. One Nashville writer takes an informal poll to see how The Old Spaghetti Factory can stay in business, and asks readers to fess up if they’ve been to one recently. We can’t say that we have, but now that it’s back on our radar maybe it’s time to give it another try.

And lastly, a 61-year-old Polish woman is suing her former employer claiming she was fired over vodka. The story is strange enough, but the article also provides a nice rundown of some of the top Polish vodkas on the market. Add any of those to the bacon diet, and we’d say you’ve got a winning combination.

But, we’re not quite done yet. As an added bonus this week, you can check out the Houston Press’ rundown of the top ten food-related sex scenes in the movies. This should give you a few ideas heading into the weekend. Enjoy.
