Food Roundup for Jan 28th

In today’s food news:

It would seem there’s some sort of Barista Olympiad I was previously unaware of. One can only assume the contestants are judged both on their ability to tolerate yuppie customers chatting on a cell phone and on whether they can give a condescending look to someone holding up the line. But, maybe there’s more to it than that.

Also, for those of you planning on watching the Super Bowl this weekend, you might have heard PETA’s pro vegetarian propaganda is no longer going to be on your agenda. Sadly, PETA’s well researched “studies show vegetarians have better sex” commercial has been banned by NBC. Apparently NBC took issue with a woman, “screwing herself with a broccoli” and “asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina.” Methinks banning PETA’s ad was just NBC’s way of avoiding awkward repetition when this year’s Anheuser Busch campaign features the exact same thing…plus a Bud Light.

On the drinking front, SF Weekly offers up another Cheap Wine That Doesn’t Suck. And, if you’ve been stressing out about trying to find the perfect wine to compliment your Big Mac, then tonight you may finally be able to get some sleep.

But what goes best with nuggets?

Lastly, if you’re looking for the perfect Super Bowl snack to munch on while you’re not watching PETA’s ad, try an Atomic Buffalo Turd. Honestly, we’re not sure exactly what’s in it. We just know that after reading the name, we kind of wanted to try one.
