Today is Free Cone Day at Ben and Jerry’s Scoop Shops, and from 12 to 8 pm you’ll be able to swing by and pick up a single scoop of your favorite flavor. Free Cone Day is part of an annual show of customer appreciation dating all the way back to 1979, when ice cream was called “iced cream” and a cone only cost you a nickel.
At the moment, it appears the Ben and Jerry’s website is down. We can only assume this is the result of hundreds of thousands of people all trying to find the nearest Scoop Shop at the same time. However, if the flood of traffic ever subsides, you can find the closest location here.
