We already knew the food in advertisements looked nothing like what we’d actually be getting. However, up until now it seemed like they were at least using real food for the commercials.
The video below showcases the computer graphics used to render a recent McDonald’s Big Mac ad. Since it was easier to get the appropriate lighting and camera movement by just faking the whole thing, that’s exactly what the creators did. We’d have more of a problem with this if it didn’t feel like using computers to render a perfect looking Big Mac and fries is in no way less honest than painstakingly arranging real food to look commercial ready. Either way, what you see and what you get aren’t even in the same ballpark.
