In an effort to curb Australia’s rapidly increasing camel population, business owners and environmentalists are pimping camels as a viable source of meat. At present, the camel population in Australia totals over one million, and is expected to double within the next eight to ten years. Hopefully someone can come up with a slogan as catchy as “the other white meat” to help launch sales of camel and put the excessive population to good use. But, with descriptions of the meat ranging from “effective if approached the right way,” to “not unpalatable,” it might be a difficult sell for consumers accustomed to more traditional meats. Still, we’re thinking with the right seasonings, throwing a camel burger “on the barbie” could be a great way for Australians to lend their local ecosystem a helping hand.
