It would appear that even T.G.I. Friday’s isn’t immune to the financial hardships currently plaguing restaurants. And, in an attempt to appeal to the value-oriented consumer they’re introducing $5 meals. Not only are they sticking it to Chili’s by undercutting the recent rollout of 10 entrees for under $7, but they’re managing to hit what at least one restaurant analyst is calling the “magic number.”
Sure, pretty much anyone can afford a $5 meal, but with the prices of some menu items being cut by more than 50 percent, it’s still a question of whether T.G.I. Friday’s can generate enough interest from the promotion to make it profitable. However, even if the whole thing does reek of desperation, we’ll be the last ones to turn down a killer deal.
