While reading a review of yet another carbonated fruit drink, it occurred to me that for the last couple of years pomegranate has been methodically weaseling its way into every “classy” fruit drink. The pomegranate has successfully replaced the cranberry as the go-to fruit for beverage makers looking to partner up their dull fruits with something new and exciting. To me it feels like this might just be a cute little fad; sort of like tamagotchis or Jonathan Lipnicki. Is there really anything that remarkable about the pomegranate? And, just as importantly, haven’t pomegranate seeds kind of been adopted as a yuppie version of the cranberry? Please discuss.
