There are a few things we typically take for granted, and one of them is the safety of our cheese. With the announcement on Monday that the FDA is warning of contaminated cheese in New York City and Pennsylvania, one of our greatest fears has finally been realized. The two products in question are both manufactured and distributed by Peregrina Cheese Corp. based out of New York, and are believed to contain Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which a quick Google search tells us is reasonably unpleasant.

So, if you’re in either New York or Pennsylvania it might be best to take a pass on the Queso Fresco Fresh Cheese Mexican-style soft cheese and Queso Cotija Molido Mexican-style grated cheese until the recall has run its course. For everyone else, try to put this unpleasant news behind you as quickly as possible by ordering a 5-cheese pizza from your local delivery place.
