A recent list from the Center for Science in the Public Interest highlighting the most dangerous foods is actually a bit of a letdown. It’s not the least bit surprising that the most common culprits are foods we tend to eat the most, but that’s also a bit deceptive. Saying tuna is more dangerous than fugu because it caused more outbreaks is like saying deer are more dangerous than grizzly bears. Sure they kill more people each year, but if you had to choose between standing face-to-face with a deer or a grizzly you’d probably opt to steer clear of the latter.

The one on the right is approximately 300 times more likely to kill you.

There’s no glitz or glamor to lists of what’s actually dangerous, because most sane people tend to avoid things that are potentially harmful. So, what we’re left with is a list of 10 inane food items that could maybe, possibly, sometimes make you sick. That’s not danger, that’s just the everyday cost of living.
