It’s a dark day for fans of eating chickens killed by a poisonous snake. Metro.co.uk reports Chinese health officials have put a halt to “a small number of eateries in the southern province of Guangdong and the southwestern city of Chongqing” that have been serving “chickens which have been bitten to death by poisonous snakes and cooked up for a supposedly detoxing meal.

The practice was being called into question as cruel to animals and “totally amoral.” However, no diners have been poisoned as a result of eating the toxin filled chicken, and it would appear the dish is no longer being served.
