After two accidents in a 2-month period, and an investigation into the safety of having between 10 and 22 increasingly drunken people pedaling a giant portable bar around the narrow streets of the city, the Beer-Bike has been cleared to stay in business. But, Reuters is reporting, “They will, however, need permits from the various city boroughs, and those permits are likely to come with restrictions on hours of operation and requirements for a sober driver.” Apparently the drivers have typically been sober anyhow, but making this stipulation an official law isn’t exactly a terrible idea.
The most important thing is preserving the right of Amsterdam’s beer drinkers to pedal down the middle of the street holding up traffic and having an all around kick-ass time.
